The earth's inner core - LIBRIS
Their work helps guide engineering and building practices to improve safety wherever earthquakes are common. Seismologists study the Earth's internal structure in order to identify factors that lead to or predict earthquakes. They present their results in academic forums and publish them in scientific journals. Their work assists in guiding engineering and construction procedures to enhance earthquake protection in areas where earthquakes are frequent.

A seismograph is an instrument that records the shaking of the earth's surface caused by seismic waves. The term seismometer is also used to refer to the same device, and the two terms are often used interchangably. NASA Sci Files segment explaining the study of seismology and how seismologists study eartquakes.

There have been no reports of injury or damage from the quakes.
Seismology is the study of seismic waves, energy waves caused by rock suddenly breaking apart within the earth or the slipping of tectonic plates. We know these as events as earthquakes. They can also be caused by explosions from volcanic eruptions and testing of nuclear bombs.

Seismologists study earthquakes by going out and looking at the damage caused by the earthquakes and by using seismographs. The term seismometer is also used to refer to the same device, and the two terms are often used interchangably. NASA Sci Files segment explaining the study of seismology and how seismologists study eartquakes. How do seismologists locate an earthquake? The location may tell us what fault it was on and where damage (if any) most likely occurred. Unfortunately, Earth is not transparent and we can't just see or photograph the earthquake disturbance like meteorologists can photograph clouds.
